The Palestinian Flag

The Palestinian Flag

Despite the constant tensions between the Israelis and the Palestinians, the Palestinian flag has still played a huge role in post-war Judaism. The issues between Israel and Palestine are undeniable and there seems to be no end to the conflict in sight but hopefully, peace will be accomplished. The First Intifada was a Palestinian uprising that occurred in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s and resulted in many casualties and was due to Israeli occupancy of the West Bank. The picture above is from the Second Intifada which occurred in the early 2000’s and again consisted of protests by the Palestinians against the Israelis and has played a huge role in the conflicts between Israel and Palestine since the establishment of Israel. Palestine and the Palestinian flag have played a huge role in the increase of nationalism as a key ideal in modern day Judaism. There have been wars, armed conflicts, and terrorist attacks that have occurred on Israeli soil due to the PLO and groups like Hamas who are supported by other predominantly Arab countries. The attacks on Israel and the threat of Palestine has played a huge role in the rise of a new type of Zionism, one that resembles the Zionism expressed by Jabotinsky, who believed that Jews should fight for a state and do whatever is necessary to obtain it and keep it safe, even if it requires violence. Despite the negative perception many Jews have when it comes to the Palestinian flag, it is undeniable that it has played a huge role in post-war Judaism.
